Description
Discover the traditional charm of the Thanjavur Wooden Horse, a classic ride-on toy for children. Skilled craftspeople make each horse using mango wood and jack wood. It is also suitable for children aged 6 months to 10 years and supports up to 30 kg.
Traditional Craftsmanship
First, craftspeople measure each wooden piece and fit it into notches to build a sturdy frame. Then, they secure the structure with nails for strength and durability.
Next, they coat the horse with matti, a blend of chalk powder and plaster of Paris. This helps smooth sharp edges. Finally, a coat of red oxide paint gives the horse its distinctive red finish.
