The Thanjavur Wooden Rocking Swan is a handcrafted traditional wooden toy made using seasoned mango wood and jackfruit wood. Each piece reflects the skill and craftsmanship of traditional artisans from Thanjavur.
The wooden components are carefully measured and fitted together using precisely made notches to create the structure of the rocking swan. Once the structure is assembled, it is finished with a traditional coating made from chalk powder and plaster of Paris, which is allowed to dry before a red oxide coating is applied. This finishing process helps shape and smooth the details and edges of the handcrafted piece.
Each Thanjavur wooden rocking swan is individually crafted, so minor variations in shape, finish, and detailing may occur. These variations are part of the character of a handmade traditional craft.
